Doug Barefield

Doug Barefield is Director of Industry Relations at the Community Oncology Alliance (COA), a non-profit organization dedicated to advocating for community oncology practices and the patients they serve. In this role, he directs relations with representatives of pharmaceutical, biotechnology, genomic, and drug delivery and distribution companies, as well as other industry entities.

By bringing together and working with all stakeholders in the cancer care ecosystem, COA seeks to address common issues that impact and hinder patient treatment and care delivery. With his deep experience working especially with biopharmaceutical manufacturers, Doug Barefield brings a wealth of knowledge that will help COA continue to meet our mission of supporting independent community oncology practices in delivering the highest quality, most affordable cancer care provided in caring clinics in patients’ own communities.

Previously, Barefield held numerous roles at AmerisourceBergen’s community oncology group purchasing organization, ION. Most recently, he managed key pharmaceutical manufacturer relationships for International Physician Networks (IPN), AmerisourceBergen’s Specialty Physician GPO that serves community-based oncology, urology, rheumatology, gastroenterology, neurology and ophthalmology practices. In this role, Doug assumed accountability for building, fostering, and strengthening ION’s relationships with various sized pharmaceutical partners for the largest and longest tenured community oncology GPO in the United States. Prior to joining ION in 2008, Doug held successful front-line customer service, management, and leadership roles in operations, account and sales management, and new business development within the hospitality and travel management sector.
