2018 State of the Union Briefing
On Wednesday, February 7th the Community Oncology Alliance (COA) hosted a “State of the Union” briefing on the state of community oncology going into 2018. More than 110 representatives of national cancer care, patient advocacy, provider, and industry organizations came together at the National Press Club in Washington, DC to receive updates on national oncology issues, COA’s policy priorities for the coming year, Congress, and the administration.
COA executive director Ted Okon opened the briefing with the message that the state of community oncology in 2018 is surviving, thriving, and innovating. This was followed by panels that discussed firsthand perspectives on policymaking taking place on Capitol Hill, practices involved in the Oncology Care Model (OCM) and OCM 2.0, new cost of care research, and the impact of pharmacy benefits managers (PBMs) on cancer care.
