Sequester On Track to be Halted Through End of 2021
House is Expected to Pass Senate Bill and Send to President for Signing
In welcome news, last week the United States Senate passed a bill to extend the moratorium on Medicare sequester reimbursement cuts until the end of 2021.
The bill is an amended version of a House of Representatives bill, meaning it will now go back to the House to be passed again. It is expected that the House will pass the bill and then send it to President Biden to be signed into law, although this will not happen until the House returns from recess in May.
COA has been a fierce advocate of pausing the sequester during the COVID-19 pandemic and worked hard to secure this pause. Providers have worked hard throughout the pandemic to care for patients, using limited resources and uncertain guidelines to protect those under their care from COVID. COA thanks legislators for taking this important step.

April CPAN Advocacy Chat: Getting Cancer Screenings Back on Track: Introducing the COA & CancerCare Time to Screen Campaign

Getting Screening Resources Into the Hands of Patients

Due to the pandemic, many providers delayed or canceled annual cancer screenings to avoid exposing patients to COVID-19. However, new studies predict an explosion of cancer mortality if screenings do not resume soon.

To address this problem and get cancer screenings back on track, the Community Oncology Alliance (COA) and CancerCare have partnered on the “Time to Screen” campaign, a national public awareness and action campaign designed to remind Americans that it is time to get back to their annual exams.

On Wednesday, April 14 at 12 p.m. ET, COA’s Nicolas Ferreyros and CancerCare’s Marissa Fors, MSW, LCSW, OSW-C, C-ASWCM, CCM, will join COA Director of Patient Advocacy and Education Rose Gerber to talk about the Time to Screen campaign, how cancer screening can save lives, and what we are doing to help.
